The Panay Energy Development Corporation operates a 164-MW coal-fired power plant at the heart of Iloilo City. It expanded with an additional 150-MW generating facility in 2015 and it became operational in June 2016.

Also in operation is a two-unit, 135-MW coal-fired power generating facility In the north-eastern municipality of Concepcion, Iloilo – the  Palm Concepcion Power Corporation.

The expansion of power projects in Panay Island have stabilize electricity supply for the entire region and it resulted to a reduced power cost. Iloilo City has started to attain improvement in terms of efficiency in power distribution with the granting of franchise to MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power).

Adequate Utilities

The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) supplies the potable water requirement of Iloilo. Additional supply for agriculture, industrial and domestic consumption is anticipated upon the completion of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II – the first large-scale reservoir dam outside of Luzon.

Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II will provide uninterrupted irrigation water supply to 32,000 ha of farm land, in addition to an estimated 86,000 cubic  meters of potable water. The project has an additional 6.6-MW hydroelectric component.

The Philippine and South Korean governments have signed a deal on official development assistance funding for the P11.2bn ($262m) project. Its completions is set in 2023.

The MIWD and MetroPac Water, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investment Corporation, has entered into a joint venture agreement to operate and maintain a bulk water project which seek to rehabilitate, operate and maintain Metro Iloilo water production facilities in the next 25 years.
